Choosing fabric for your hoodie or T-shirt
Think about the finished garment before choosing a fabric specification.
In this guide

Begin with how it should feel
Use words such as structured, fluid, soft, textured or substantial to describe the intended result. A physical swatch or reference garment can communicate more than a composition alone.
Consider weight and structure together
Fabric weight is only one part of the brief. Knit structure, fiber composition and finishing also affect drape and handfeel. Review suitable options with the intended fit and season in mind.
Review color and decoration together
The base fabric, surface finish and color can affect decoration choices. Discuss printing or embroidery at the same time as the material so sample development considers the complete garment.
Check with a sample
Review the material in a finished sample where possible. Check appearance, fit and comfort against your intended use. Any performance or certification requirement needs specific supporting evidence.
Put the guide into practice.
Send your reference, target quantities and questions. Your brief does not need to have every answer on day one.
